Ushers are temporary, at-will employees.

OBJECTIVE A:  Provide optimal assistance to patrons in an emergency or evacuation.

OBJECTIVE B:  Provide quality service to patrons attending events in the performing arts venues and assist in event preparation and conclusion.

  1. Arrive on-time in appropriate dress for scheduled shifts (or obtain replacement if unable to work.)
  2. Assist in program preparation including:  stuffing inserts, distributing to stands and collecting at events’ end.
  3. Attend Pre-Event meeting for  assignment and event specifics.
  4. Ability and willingness to work any assignment. (Assignments may include checking patrons’ coats and belongings, taking tickets, handing out programs, escorting patrons to seats, etc.)
  5. Be in assigned area by designated time.
  6. Understand and perform duties of assignment.
  7. Monitor physical surroundings in assigned area prior to and throughout event for safety, cleanliness and functionality;  notify  the House Manager of concerns.
  8. Respond quickly and courteously to patrons’ needs, questions, comments, or concerns with answers and/or action.
  9. At event’s end, walk through assigned area retrieving lost items, cushions, etc. and turn them in accordingly.

OBJECTIVE C:       Attend meetings and job trainings as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Enjoy working with public.
  2. Ability to provide quality customer service.
  3. Ability to solve problems quickly and courteously.
  4. Excellent communication and problem solving skills, including ability to maintain composure under stress.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Understand and adhere to established policies and procedures.
  2. Actively assist with established Front of House emergency procedures. (Familiar with location and operation of emergency exits and equipment.)
  3. Assist House Manager with procedures for injuries, medical problems, etc.
  4. Assist patrons with ADA / special needs.
  5. Ability to provide accurate knowledge to patrons regarding venue logistics (i.e. location of ticket office, restrooms, phones, concessions, coat check, etc.), information about the event, general building history, etc.
  6. Ability to read event ticket (visual acuity corrected to read as small as 11-font print) in dim lighting with use of provided flashlight.
  7. Ability to repeatedly climb stairs – up and down – to provide effective staff coverage in all areas of theatre.
  8. Ability to stand for long periods, sometimes for the duration of an event.
  9. Work all assigned shifts and arrive at posted call time (or obtain replacement.)
  10. Adhere to dress code.
  11. Commit to at least one year of service.
  12. Work in all three buildings at a variety of events.
    • Paid staff work a minimum of eight events each month. Minimum shifts may may increase in a given month.
      • Work flexible hours, including nights and holidays.
      • Work two Saturday or Sunday shifts per month.
    • Volunteer staff work a minimum of three events each month. Minimum shifts may increase in a given month.
      • Work flexible hours, including nights and holidays.
      • Work one Saturday or Sunday shift per month.
    • Attend required trainings and meetings.
      • Usher training sessions and meetings (Patron Services New Hire, Emergency Procedures, Sexual Harassment, Americans with Disabilities Act, etc.)
      • On the job training is provided (minimum of 9 tours — 3 tours at each building.)
