Ushers are temporary, at-will employees.

 

 

OBJECTIVE A: Provide quality customer service to patrons attending events in the performing arts venues and assist in event preparation and conclusion.

  1. Arrive on-time in appropriate dress for scheduled shifts (or obtain replacement if unable to work.)
  2. Assist with event programs. Duties include stuffing programs with inserts, distribution of programs to stands, maintenance of programs and collection of programs at events’ end.
  3. Attend Pre-Event meeting for job assignment and event specifics.
  4. Ability and willingness to work any assignment. (Assignments may include checking patrons’ coats and belongings, taking tickets, handing out programs, escorting patrons to seats, etc.)
  5. Be in assigned area by designated time.
  6. Understand and perform duties of assignment as listed in Venue Assignment Checklist.
  7. Monitor physical surroundings in assigned area prior to and throughout event for safety, cleanliness and functionality;  contact  the House Manager with questions, comments, or concerns.
  8. Respond quickly and courteously to patrons’ needs, questions, comments, or concerns with answers and/or action.
  9. At event’s end, walk through assigned area retrieving lost items, cushions, etc. and turn them in accordingly.

OBJECTIVE B:       Attend meetings and job trainings as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Enjoy working with public.
  2. Provide quality customer service.
  3. Ability to solve problems quickly and courteously.
  4. Excellent communication and problem solving skills, including ability to maintain composure under stress.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

  1. Understand and adhere to established policies and procedures.
  2. Actively assist with established Front of House emergency procedures. (Familiar with location and operation of emergency exits and equipment.)
  3. Assist House Manager with procedures for injuries, medical problems, etc. (Familiar with location of defibrillator.)
  4. Assist patrons with disability-related issues.
  5. Ability to provide accurate knowledge to patrons regarding venue logistics (i.e. location of ticket office, restrooms, phones, concessions, coat check, etc.), information about the event, general building history, etc.
  6. Ability to read event ticket (visual acuity corrected to read as small as 11-font print) in dim lighting with use of provided flashlight if necessary.
  7. Ability to repeatedly climb stairs – up and down – to ensure effective event procedure in all areas of theatre.
  8. Ability to stand for long periods, sometimes throughout an entire event.
  9. Work all assigned shifts and arrive at posted call time (or obtain replacement.)
  10. Adhere to dress code.
  11. Commit to one year of service.
  12. Work in all three buildings.
  13. Paid staff work a minimum of eight events each month. Additional shifts may be required in a given month.
  14. Volunteer staff work a minimum of three events each month. Additional shifts may be required in a given month.
  15. Attend required trainings and meetings.
